During boot up a computer will search for operating system files on all every drive. For a computer to boot from a Live Disc the optical drive must come before the hard drive in boot order. Therefore if Live Disc is in optical drive at boot it will be used as the operating system disc and thus boot Puppy Linux.
Some computer’s BIOS do not by default boot from the optical drive before hard drive. If your computer does not automatically boot from Puppy Linux Live Disc when it is present in optical drive during start up then you must modify BIOS boot order so that optical drive comes before hard drive in boot order.
For booting from a Puppy Linux Live Disc any boot sequence where optical drive comes before hard drive in boot order will be satisfactory to boot Puppy Linux Live Disc. If necessary configure BIOS so optical drive has precedence over hard drive in boot order.
