CPU Frequency Scaling Tool
This utility can automatically reduce or increase processor speed on demand to reduce heat, power consumption and wear of your computer's CPU.
Check CPU Speed
For 5.x
Go to Menu > System > System Status and Config > HardInfo hardware information
For 4.x
Go to Menu > System > HardInfo hardware information
In left pane of HardInfo click Processor. In right pane under Configuration note Frequency.
Enable CPU Frequency Scaling, Set CPU Min - Max Speed in Puppy Linux 4.x
Open CPU Frequency Scaling Tool
From drop down select the default initial setting or pick a setting that matches your processor type. You can re-run setup if your first choice is not suitable.
Enter a minimum speed. This can be any speed that is less that the normal speed.
Enter a maximum speed or leave this field blank.
Go to Menu > System > HardInfo hardware information
Confirm that new processor speed is less than originally observed in HardInfo.

Open CPU Frequency Scaling Tool
From drop down select the default initial setting or pick a setting that matches your processor type, click Apply.
Note: If you choose an incompatible setting it will not be accepted and you must select a different setting.
Click Next to accept CPU type.
Select a governor type from the dropdown. You may accept the default ondemand.
Select the default minimum and maximum processor speed or choose new speeds from the drop downs then click Apply.
Select the default Threshold or click select a different Threshold radio button, click Next then click Done to confirm setting.
Note: You can re-run setup if your first choices are not suitable.
Disable CPU Frequency Scaling in Puppy Linux 4.x
Open ROX-Filer and browse to /root/startup and delete start_cpu_freq
Disable CPU Frequency Scaling in Puppy Linux 5.x
Open CPU Frequency Scaling Tool
Select a CPU type and click Apply.
In the Accept type dialog click Remove
Alternatively you may open ROX-Filer and browse to /root/startup and delete cpu-frequency-scaling.sh

Go to Menu > System > System Status and Config > CPU Frequency Scaling Tool
Menu Location 4.x
Go to Menu > Utility > CPU Frequency Scaling Tool
