ROX-Filer setup options control appearance and behavior of file manager and many aspects of desktop icon behavior.

Open ROX-Filer Manual

Go to Menu > Filesystem > ROX-Filer

Click life preserver icon in menubar.

In directory window click Manual.html

View Options

Right click anywhere in ROX-Filer window then select Options

In left pane click one of the following categories then select configuration options within that category.

Translation

Language:

• Select interface language

Filer Windows

Auto-resize filer windows:

• Select one of three radio buttons to control how file manager windows will behave when using magnifier+, magnifier-, extra details or eye icon in toolbar.

Largest window size Set maximum percentage of desktop space file manager windows should be when Auto-resize is enabled.

Window behavior:

• Short titlebar flags Enable or disable long or short messages in titlebar when using scan button.
• Unique window When enabled automatically closes duplicate file manager windows.
• New window on button 1 Enable or disable new file manager window when clicking directory with left mouse button. Enable or disable reusing current file manager window when clicking directory with middle button.
• Single click navigation Enable or disable single click to open files or directories. If enabled hold down Ctrl then select item with left mouse button click.
• Double-click on background resizes If this is enabled and if window is maximized then double clicking an empty area of file manager window is equivalent to clicking Restore/Maximize button in titlebar.

Sorting:

• Directories come first (for sort by name) When enabled directories are always first in file manager windows regardless of alphabetical criteria.
• Capitalized names first (for sort by name) Enable or disable placing capitalized file names first in sort order. Note that this setting only applies after file manager has been closed and reopened or after an alphabetical sort has been applied by clicking Name column in file manager window.

Pinboard

Appearance:

• Foreground Icon text color
• Text shadow Icon text shadow disable or enable
• Background Desktop color without wallpaper
• Use custom font For icon font

Note: Click rectangular button to change color. Click color wheel to select color then click triangle to select color darkness. Alternatively you may click eyedropper icon then click on any area of desktop or any open graphic to select color.

Pinboard behaviour:

• Single or double click to open Desktop icons
• Icon grid step Constrains icon movement while positioning on desktop.
• Keep icons within screen limits Of desktop while positioning.
