Install Windows Software
Install software with same method as you would any Windows software
Install Software .exe File
If you are using Puppy Linux with save file open optical drive and remove Live Disc. Put Windows compatible software install disc in optical drive.
Click desktop drive icon (lower left corner of desktop) containing software disc. Puppy Linux will automatically mount drive, open and display contents of disc.
Note: If software install file is on hard drive browse to file with ROX-Filer then click on file name to install.
Click software install file. Example: install.exe Follow prompts, install will proceed just as it would in Windows.
When install is complete right click desktop optical disc drive icon (in lower left corner of desktop) containing software disc, select Unmount then remove install disc.
Install Software .msi File
Puppy Linux 5.x: Go to Menu > Utilities > General Utilities > Wine Control Panel
Puppy Linux 4.x: Go to Menu > Utilities > Wine Control Panel
Double click Add/Remove Programs. Click Install button. Browse to and select file then click Open. Installation will proceed as it would in Windows. Click Cancel to close Add/Remove programs dialog. Close WINE Control Panel.
Create Desktop Shortcut to New Windows Software
Installing Windows software in Puppy Linux using WINE does not automatically put a shortcut to that software on the desktop. You must manually place shortcut on desktop.
Go to Menu > Filesystem > ROX-Filer
In menubar click eye shaped icon to view hidden files and directories (a.k.a. files or directories whose name begins with a period). ROX-Filer titlebar will now display message: ~(All)
Maximize window.
Click .local directory.
Click share directory.
Click applications directory.
Click wine directory.
Click Programs directory.
Click directory name of newly installed software.
Resize window so that desktop is partially visible.
Drag and drop ?.desktop (where ? is name of Windows software) file onto desktop.
In future you may start the Windows software by clicking this desktop shortcut.
Note: Windows software typically takes longer to start than software bundled with Puppy Linux.
Using Software That Has No Install Method
If the software you want to run does not have an install method (a.k.a. freeware with single executable file) then you must instead use this procedure:
